Indian society has adopted parliamentary system. It is popularly known as SANSAD, as it is a smooth working body which consist of two houses.These two houses are RAJYA SABHA (upper house) -house of representatives, and LOK SABHA(lower house)- house of people and the President(nominal head).
The sessions of parliament are at the descretion of the president however there is not a gap of more than six month between two sessions.The President has the power to summon either or both the houses of parliament.The parliament ordinarily meets in three sessions in a year i.e. Budget session, Monsoon session and Winter session.

- Legislation
- An organ of information
- Financial control
- Power of removing functionaries like the President and Vice-President and Judges of Supreme Court and High Court.
- Followed by other law making powers and financial powers.
